Interested in Microneedling? Here’s What Patients Should Know

Having seen the many benefits of RF microneedling, Dr. Joyesh Raj often recommends Morpheus8 to his patients who wish to rejuvenate their skin but are not interested in surgery. However, as effective as microneedling is, a lot of patients still are not too familiar with the treatment. In this blog, Dr. Raj explains what new patients should know about microneedling as they consider all their cosmetic options.
The Primary Goal Is to Improve the Texture of Your Skin
As you get older, your body produces less collagen and elastin, two proteins that are largely responsible for keeping your skin tight and smooth. Microneedling makes miniature wounds in your skin, which prompts your body to make more collagen and elastin than it would otherwise. Adding radiofrequency energy to microneedling generates even more collagen. Consequently, your skin develops a nicer texture that rejuvenates your appearance.
However, that’s hardly the only benefit of microneedling. The treatment is highly effective at treating several other skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation/age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, oversized pores, and stretch marks.
Discomfort Is Minimal
The needle aspect of microneedling may have you worried about pain and serious damage to your skin. Fortunately, microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that is very safe. The tiny needles used in this procedure do not cause any lasting harm, instead doing just enough to provoke new collagen production.
As for pain, you may experience some mild discomfort during your treatment, but you should find it tolerable. A topical numbing agent is applied to your skin prior to the treatment to keep you comfortable.
It Is Safe for a Variety of Skin Tones
Many of the popular skin treatments that address flaws similar to those addressed by microneedling are not appropriate for all patients, particularly those who have darker complexions. No matter what shade your skin is, microneedling can correct your flaws — without posing additional risks that some laser treatments do for people of color.
Repeating Microneedling Can Enhance the Results
Because it takes time for collagen and elastin to develop and tighten the skin, your results are not immediately visible. The more microneedling treatments you undergo, the better your results will be. You may schedule subsequent microneedling sessions (no sooner than one month after your last appointment) depending on your aesthetic goals.
